The town

Zermatt remains a timeless legend, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of some of Europe’s highest mountains, including the Dom, Monte Rosa and of course the magnificent Matterhorn. The village is car-free, you'll find only small electric cars & horse-drawn sleighs.

This natural skiing paradise offers skiing 365 days a year. on some of the highest pistes in Europe. There are 3 major ski areas, Sunnegga, Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn, each providing varied terrain from moguls to motorways. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or adventurous advanced skier, Zermatt has something for everyone.

The ski area

From the top of the Klein Matterhorn, offering one of the best views in the Alps you can ski down to the Italian resort of Cervinia. On the other side towards Zermatt, there is approximately one thousand vertical metres of glacier skiing. The Klein Matterhorn area’s wide, open runs provide excellent learning ground and pistes of all colours keep any level of skier happy.

The second ski area can be reached via the breathtaking Gornergrat train journey or now via the Matterhorn then Riffelberg Express, accessing wide open blue and red runs perfect for intermediates. Cable cars between Gornergrat take skiers to Triftji, Zermatt's most famous mogul field, and on to the freeride area of Stockhorn. The final area, Sunnegga has a good mix of terrain with some runs in the trees making it a great place to head in bad weather.
